A NEW WINE, THE CUVÉE “500”, made entirely by hand !

A NEW WINE, THE CUVÉE “500”, made entirely by hand !

For the autumn, we are offering a wine that we have not previously released. We are proud to say that it was entirely hand-made, right down to the label, consisting of a “500” written by the winegrower!

Created in 2011, Mickaël had just returned from 6 months in the Napa Valley where he worked with his friend Luc Morley. That year, the nearby Tonnellerie Darnajou (cooperage) produced its first 500-litre oak barrels. Inspired by his time in America, Mickaël decided to vinify and then mature his best Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in new 500 litre oak barrels, hence the handwritten 500 surrounded by a circle. 1,500 bottles were produced.

2011 was initially a somewhat reserved vintage, particularly in comparison with the excellent 2010. Nevertheless, 10 years later, with 8 years of bottle ageing, this vintage tastes marvellous and reveals tremendous subtlety.

Cuvée “500” – 2011 Vintage – 75 cl: €25 inc. VAT

Two new unusual creations!

Two new unusual creations!

To keep us busy in the winery, and for your pleasure, we have created two wines with no added sulphites: a Montagne Saint-Émilion which we have named Carré De Soi (as an expression of authenticity), and a Lalande de Pomerol named Cœur De Soie (as an expression of generosity). The labels are based on the colours of the véraison (when the grapes change colour as they ripen) and on tasting notes.

Winter and pruning the vines

Winter and pruning the vines

The beginning of the year is winter when we prune the vines.
It is a time to reflect on our choices and future commitments.
We need to think carefully about our growing methods as the growth cycle begins again.

Pruning the vines requires observing, questioning and anticipating.
We have to look carefully at each vine to understand it.
We have to respect it so that it gives its best, without exhausting or restricting it. Depending on the vine’s vigour, how many buds should we leave? Is it balanced? How can we prepare the positioning of the future bunches, so they have sufficient space to develop without hindrance? And then, which branch will bear the following year’s harvest?

We choose the branches that will bear the most expressive, healthiest grapes possible.

Caring for our working and living environment is, as always, a priority. This year, we want to bring more life into and around our vineyard with the creation of habitats for auxiliary fauna, with hedges, shelters, tree planting and the positioning of nesting boxes.
